COVID patients in need of treatment and testing are helped by Thai volunteers.

THAILAND'S BANGKOK (AP) — Ordinary individuals are risking their health to offer care and supplies to fearful, fatigued patients who have fallen between the cracks as Thailand's medical system struggles to cope with a surge in coronavirus cases.

In the Samai area of Bangkok, Ekapob Laungprasert’s team heads out for another weekend on the front lines of a crisis.

His volunteer group, Samai Will Survive, has been working around the clock, answering around a hundred SOS calls each day from desperate COVID-19 patients who have been unable to receive the care they require.
