As Asia's new Covid-19 epicenter, Indonesia has surpassed India.
Authorities in Indonesia recorded 54,517 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, a national record for a single day and a severe warning sign for the world's fourth-most populated country.
Indonesia, which has a population of roughly 270 million people, is now reporting more cases per day than India, making it Asia's new pandemic hotspot. Experts believe that if the spread continues uncontrolled, it may lead to a pandemic.
Some believe that the situation is worse than the statistics indicate since not enough individuals are getting tested for the virus.
According to a poll released on Saturday, over half of Jakarta's 10.6 million people may have contracted Covid-19.
