The aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth and her Carrier Strike Group have arrived in the South China Sea, which China claims in major part. Before approaching the South China Sea, the aircraft carrier and her escorts stopped at Singapore. China claims sovereignty over virtually the entire 1.3 million-square-mile South China Sea.
It has also slammed the presence of foreign vessels in the area as the source of regional instability.
“The exercise, which aims to improve interoperability and coordination between the two navies,” according to the Ministry of Defence, “builds on the strong and long-standing defence cooperation between the UK and Singapore.”
